In the past, I've had some people say that they wanted to come over and cook dinner for me and surprise me with a meal they know how to prepare well. Well it's not so simple with me. First you have to know my diet if you want to cook for Me.
I've been a vegetarian for 20 years now. Really a pescatarian vegetarian since I ate fish but no other animals/meat. So my diet included fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, beans, eggs and dairy.
And for some periods of time such as in 2010, I was a raw vegan (fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, sprouts) because I found out that cooking destroys up to 85% of the nutrients in food. Also in the past I visited the Hippocrates Health Institute in west palm beach that teaches that a raw vegan diet is the best diet for treating any disease. I took a raw "uncooking" class there, had a tour and also met some pretty amazing people from around the world that go there and get cured of serious diseases sometimes after conventional doctors give up on them. So certainly I thought it would be good for preventing anything too. I still think it's the ideal diet to be on. It's just a bit hard to stay on but I did complete a 45 day all raw vegan diet/challenge at one point. And I still belong to a local raw vegan group that sometimes meets, has potlucks and educates about health. By the way, I also read a book called "Age Less, Live More" by an energetic 110 year old guy, Bernando LaPallo, that has been eating a 80% raw vegan diet for most of his life.
Nowadays I am back to a pescatarian vegetarian diet but a couple days ago I saw a great video that advocated a regular vegan diet (cooked veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, sprouts, grains, but no dairy, eggs, fish or meat) so now I'm going to try a vegan diet (cooked and raw). I'm going to a vegan cooking class on monday that is about cooking vegan meals fast.
Here is the Video I watched. It's long but good.
"Uprooting the leading causes of death"
Description:
"Death in America is largely a foodborne illness. Focusing on studies
published just over the last year in peer-reviewed scientific medical
journals, Dr. Greger offers practical advice on how best to feed
ourselves and our families to prevent, treat, and even reverse many of
the top 15 killers in the United States."

PS- I do not require any sub of mine to eat the way I do. If you want to try or eat something I eat then great you're getting more nutrients. But if not, then I understand.

I visit your blog frequently because of your insights into the lifestyle. But now you also show me your knowledge about nutrition and longevity. Thanks for the interesting link!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed my blog post. I believe it's up to every individual (not conventional doctors) to know what's best for their health. So I have read alot about the latest in health and longevity. Unfortunately in America, doctors are basically mostly prescription writers and most have not taken any nutrition classes or taken the time to read about nutrition or natural therapies. After meeting people with amazing recoveries through a raw vegan food diet and reading similar studies in books, I believe in Hippocrates' quote: "Let food be thy medicine and medicine thy food".
ReplyDeleteI know that some of my blog readers have health problems themselves or their family members do so I thought it was important to share my knowledge and the link to the video I think everyone should watch.
i agree completely with You, MistressLisa about individual responsibility for your own health. A friend of mine is a medical doctor(specialist) and he told me that in 8+ years of schooling he took only one class on nutrition.
ReplyDeleteMost doctors have taken no nutrition classes but sometimes there are some that have taken one. That's still not enough though.
